RSPCA Queensland is calling for information from members of the public that may have witnessed a kitten being dumped in a post box last Thursday 25th May between 12:30pm and 6:30pm.
On Thursday around 6:30pm, a passer-by heard a kitten meowing from inside a post box on the corner of Morayfield Rd and John St in Caboolture South.
RSPCA Rescue Officer Samantha attended the location to free the kitten.
Now named Pat, is receiving veterinary care at the RSPCA in Brisbane.
Australia Post serviced this post box at 12:30pm Thursday and stated the kitten was not inside at the time.
The RSPCA has been in contact with surrounding businesses for any CCTV footage that may assist in this investigation.
Anyone with information about how this kitten came to be dumped in the post box or with dashcam footage is urged to contact the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).
RSPCA Inspector Julia Steley says, "This kitten could have died if not found in time."
The RSPCA would like to thank the passer-by for alerting authorities as the kitten would most likely have been exposed to both cold temperatures inside the metal post box overnight and heat the following morning if not found before the Friday 12:30pm post box service.
Ms Steley says, "It is deeply concerning that someone could do this. The kitten would have been frightened and uncomfortable."
The RSPCA is urging the community to ask for help if they are struggling with a pet and to surrender unwanted litters.
Ms Steley says, "Dumping any animal is inhumane. If you need help with an animal, reach out."
Anyone found abandoning or dumping animals, can face prosecution.
The dumping of Pat the kitten comes just days out from the RSPCA's Operation Wanted desexing campaign commencing on June 1.
