Expect to see an RSPCA pop up pet at your local shopping centre, specialist store and even your local bank.
From Thursday the 4th of December, cardboard cutouts of animals RSPCA Qld has up for adoption will be appearing at stores and other areas in the community all over Brisbane - and soon, the entire State of Queensland and NSW.
Each pet has a QR code on it and all someone has to do is download a QR scanner in the Android or Apple store on their phone, scan the pop up pet and this will take them to the animal’s individual profile.
“Once again we’re trying to boost our adoptions by proving to people that RSPCA animals really do make the best pets,” said RSPCA Qld CEO Mark Townend. “If someone likes the look of one of the life sized animals, they can find out their profile information within minutes. Technology is helping us relocate lost pets through Trakapet and Finding Rover, now technology will help us rehome animals as well."
RSPCA Qld officially launched 'Pop Up' Pets Toowong Shopping Centre on Thursday December 4.
Richard Hoffman, Portfolio Investment Manager of Retail First Shopping Centres, said “We’re pleased to be including Pop Up Pets in all of our shopping centres. It’s another way we can show our support for the RSPCA and help more rescue animals find their new homes.”Other businesses nearby that have agreed to have pop up pets include Westpac City and Toowong branch, Peter Alexander’s Queen Street store and AON corporate office (Level 2, 175 Eagle Street).
“This just the start,” continued Mr Townend. “As you can imagine there has been a lot of work getting this far and this will continue because once an animal has been rehomed, his or her pop has to be replaced. But we’re committed and think it will make a very real difference. Animal rescue has well and truly entered cyberspace. This isn't a short term campaign, it is now well and truly part of our adoption strategy."
This amazing initiative is sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition.
