The number of animals coming in to RSPCA Queensland shelters has continued to rise despite record numbers of adoptions for the month of December 2015. All RSPCA Adoption centres exceeded their projected adoption targets but in most centres, their yearly intake continued to rise.
“We’re finding homes for more animals but sadly more animals are coming into our care,” said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty. “Townsville, Cairns, Wacol and Dakabin have been consistently full to busting. It can be very disheartening. However more animals are finding homes which is encouraging."
In a further push to find more homes, dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from RSPCA Animal Care Centres and foster homes will converge on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday January 16th. All will be available for adoption on the day and RSPCA staff and volunteers are hoping to rehome well over 200 animals on the day. The RSPCA Pop Up Adoption Event rehomed a staggering 277 animals in its inaugural day last year.
