The RSPCA Townsville Animal Care Centre is overflowing with animals and is urgently seeking people interested in adopting or fostering animals.
Townsville Animal Care Centre Manager Anja Letz said there were currently 354 cats, kittens, dogs and puppies available for adoption.
“We’re at double our ideal capacity. Some animals have been surrendered to us, but most are simply strays that sadly haven’t been reclaimed,” Ms Letz said.
“Their owners haven’t come forward, so now we’re looking for new homes where they’ll be wanted.
“If anyone has been thinking about getting a pet for their family, now is a great time to do it and I’d encourage them to visit our shelter.”
Ms Letz said that people who were not ready or able to adopt could foster an animal on a short-term basis instead.
“Foster carers provide a loving temporary home for the animals. We rely on them throughout the year to care for animals that aren’t ready for adoption for one reason or another.
“But at times like this when our shelter is full, foster carers really ease the pressure on the shelter, while sparing the animals the stresses of the shelter.
“Foster care is a win-win situation for the RSPCA, the animal and the carer. Carers receive the feel-good benefits of pet ownership, with food, grooming and veterinary care provided.”
The RSPCA Townsville Animal Care Centre will be holding an information session on Tuesday 18 November for anyone who is interested in learning more about the work of the RSPCA or in foster care or volunteering opportunities.

All RSPCA dogs and cats are desexed and microchipped.
