Our Inspectorate presence will remain in the Townsville region as we revert to our core duties of animal welfare and the prevention of animal cruelty; in fact, we now have a second Inspector working out of Townsville.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for all of your ongoing support over the years. Adopters, donors, foster carer and volunteers, YOU made a difference to the lives of thousands of animals in need – thank you.
We hope you will continue to support us as we carry on providing pets looking for their second chance to Petbarn stores and other offside adoption opportunities in the area. They still need you.
Animals in RSPCA Townsville care come the end of April will be transported across the state to their temporary but love filled homes at one of our many Adoption Centres.
Many options were considered during a meeting with the Mayor Hill, our current course was the only amicable decision for both parties. While the role we played in the Townsville area may have been bigger than the Council imagined we have hope for the Townsville rescue community.
Other incredible rescue and rehoming organisations will step into some of the roles previously provided by the RSPCA at the Council pound and we look forward to providing support to these groups working towards a better future for animals.
The RSPCA will continue to work with Townsville Council on animal identification and desexing programs to reduce the number of incoming animals. Our Inspectorate have been guaranteed working space and kennels for any seized animals in the area.
A number of staff from the RSPCA Townsville team are expected to be utilised by Townsville Council in this change of roles.
To the community: we will be back. We plan to provide an RSPCA adoption style centre within the region again.
