After a successful 5-year tenure at RSPCA Queensland, Darren Maier has decided depart from his role as Chief Executive Officer to pursue a new opportunity and focus on his family.
In a message to staff and volunteers on Thursday, Darren shared:
"It is with mixed emotions that I write to you to let you know I have notified the Board of my resignation from RSPCA Queensland in order to take up an executive role in another sector.
"I am incredibly proud of what we all have collectively achieved together over the last 5 years. Together we have moved from an organisation that responded to the huge number of animal needs that came our way, and have transformed into an organisation that proactively seeks to address the root cause of why animals need us in the first place.
"We have a strong strategy leading into 2030 to become even more proactive in the community, and we are investing in and developing our leaders to take the RSPCA to new heights. I truly believe the future is bright and more importantly the opportunity for you all to continue to make a massive impact for our animals is there to be had.
"Having celebrated my 5 year anniversary on Tuesday, the time is right to tackle the next opportunity and put more focus back in on my family. I am excited about the future, but also sad to leave the good work and the many wonderful people of the RSPCA behind."
Darren will continue to serve as CEO until December 2024, ensuring a smooth transition as the RSPCA Board begin the search for his successor.
