The masked lapwing is recovering at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital
RSPCA Queensland is calling for information from members of the public that may have any information about a plover that was found last week in Logan with a blow dart through its neck.
On Thursday February 2nd, a masked lapwing was reported to the RSPCA found at Hogan St, Chambers Flat with a blow dart lodged through its throat.
Investigations have not yet determined who may have deliberately shot the bird.
Anyone with information about how this masked lapwing came to have a blow dart lodged in its throat or may have seen someone in the area using blow darts is urged to contact the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).
The area around Hogan St which the bird would have most likely originated.
RSPCA Inspector Wayne Hodder says, “Cruelty towards animals is not tolerated by RSPCA and the wider community.”
In recent years, a person who shot a plover with an arrow was prosecuted.
Mr Hodder says, “We continue to receive reports of alleged shooting of roos, birds and reptiles with arrows, guns, darts etc. In this instance it was a Plover. Any assistance from the public in locating those involved in these actions would be much appreciated.”
The masked lapwing has luckily survived its injuries and is recovering at the RSPCA’s Wildlife Hospital in Brisbane.
