In what they’re calling the first major breakthrough in years, RSPCA Qld Inspectors and Queensland Police have executed warrants on four Queensland properties in relation to dog fighting.
In the past week, a property near Richmond in NW West Queensland, two in Logan and one in the Redlands were raided and numerous dogs were seized that were believed to have been used in dog fighting. A number of other dogs were also taken from the properties due to welfare concerns. All in all a total of 62 dogs are now under RSPCA care. Inspectors also seized items such as treadmills, break sticks and numerous documents relating to the training and keeping of fighting dogs. RSPCA Inspectors also found evidence of cockfighting such as prohibited spurs.
The raids were carried out after an extensive task force investigation into alleged dog fighting rings and the RSPCA would like to thank the public for their support. Anyone who has further information is urged to report it to the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) available 24/7.
