RSPCA Queensland has welcomed the Queensland Government's continued support of the Pets in Crisis program, after $1.04 million in funding was announced over the next five years.

The funding will help to provide certainty and security to the service, which since 2005 has provided emergency boarding, veterinary care and preventative health services for pets whose owners are experiencing domestic and family violence.

The knowledge that their pets will be safe gives DFV victims greater comfort and confidence to leave the dangerous situation they are facing.

RSPCA CEO, Darren Maier says, "domestic violence and the use of animals as a form of coercive control is a real issue."

"The demand for our Pets In Crisis program has grown this past year, so continued funding is certainly welcome."

The funding is in addition to $200,000 provided to Pets in Crisis in 2022.
