Should your pet become lost, a microchip is a guaranteed way to access your contact details at the local council, vet or animal welfare rescue agency.
**Microchipping is mandatory in Queensland**
On July 1 2009 legislation enforcing the mandatory microchipping of cats and dogs took effect. Mandatory microchipping is a positive step towards reducing abandoned and unwanted animal overpopulation. Mandatory microchipping only applies to new transfers of ownership.
Ideally your pet should have:
- An RSPCA VIP tag
- A Microchip
- A council registration tag and
- A personal tag with name and phone number
