About the role

We're looking for a passionate Community Programs Officer to join our team! In this role, you’ll help coordinate the Community Cat Program, working with the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation (APWF), RSPCA, and AWL. Your day-to-day will include scheduling desex bookings, coordinating volunteers, and supporting trapping and transport efforts. You’ll collaborate with APWF staff, local government, and the community to ensure smooth program operations and humane handling of cats. Plus, you'll have the chance to grow and contribute to other desexing initiatives, including Operation Wanted and People & Pets program!

  • Act as liaison between the community, RSPCA, APWF, and local government for the Community Cat Program.
  • Engage the community to enrol eligible cats in designated Ipswich suburbs.
  • Collect and record data on cats and their carers using a standard questionnaire.
  • Provide support to the affiliated service providers in the safe trapping, transport & care of cats.
  • Coordinate desexing appointments and transport with veterinary partners.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for program support.
  • Identify stray cat “hot spots” for program services, working with RSPCA departments to identify areas of most need.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports to partner organisations.
  • Follow and contribute to the Community Cat Program Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Create educational materials and provide public training on program topics.
  • Support the delivery of Operation Wanted and community pet care initiatives.


About you

You'll be a great communicator with top-notch interpersonal skills. If this is the right role for you, your skills and qualifications may also include:

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, strong organisational, and clear communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with a professional appearance and behaviour.
  • Confident in Google Apps, Microsoft Word, Excel, social media, and research.
  • Genuine love for animals and ability to handle various animals safely; experience with fractious cats is a plus.
  • Positive mindset and commitment to humane treatment of animals.
  • Ability to lift 10 kilos, work outdoors in all weather, and travel as needed.
  • Genuine commitment to animal welfare and alignment with RSPCA Qld’s mission and values.

We are open to candidates who may not have industry experience but may have a transferable skill set.
