RSPCA Queensland is a non-government, community-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of domestic, farmed, and native animals in Queensland. Our mission statement is simple but powerful: Together We Change Lives.


About the role

The primary responsibility of this role is the organisation and facilitation of the surgery component of our community-based programs, which delivers quality, needs-based services to Queensland. The Community Nurse also assists with delivery of existing Outreach programs and activities, and working across the various teams that make up the Community Department.

  • Supporting the delivery of outreach activates. This includes all pre- and post- program organisation, assistance organising staff and volunteers, assistance with logistics, care and maintenance of equipment, data entry and associated administrative duties and data collation
  • Providing education to pet owners
  • Perform routine medical and laboratory tests
  • Managing post appointments including surgical
  • Preparing and assisting with surgery
  • Assisting with transportation of animals to RSPCA facilities
  • Assisting the Outreach Team with development and delivery of community programs
  • Assisting the Community Outreach Specialist where necessary with their social programs
  • Support the Education Team with school and community-based education through our School Holiday Programs and other Education initiatives
  • Raise community awareness and understanding of the positive and mutually beneficial links between human wellbeing and animal welfare.


Who are we looking for?

  • A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or Australian recognised equivalent)
  • Minimum 3-years nursing experience
  • Previous surgical nursing and emergency and critical care experience with companion animals would be highly regarded
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A passion to improve the lives of animals and a commitment to achieving the long-term goals of RSPCA Qld.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excel and outlook
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos


This is a full-time position, with working hours are Monday to Friday. The candidate will also be required to work some evening shifts, weekends and travel intrastate when necessary.
