Six ways to help animals in 2018!

Donate Foster Fundraise Internship Rehome Posted Dec 15, 2020
The New Year has commenced and 2018 is filled with motivated people working towards their New Year’s Resolutions.
The best part about the New Year is another chance to smash those old bad habits and reinvent yourself.

So why not start by looking at ways you can help animals in need this year? One of the main ways you can help RSPCA is by attending one of their local events which are aimed at raising money and helping animals available for adoption new homes.

RSPCA Pop Up Adoption will be at the Brisbane Convention Centre on 13 January 2018! And we are bringing dogs, puppies, cats and kittens from right across our Queensland shelters, to you!

Here is the full list of things that you can do to enrich your 2018 and help the lives of many animals in need.
Volunteer at the RSPCA

We rely on and are so grateful for all the hard work and dedication that our volunteers give to the RSPCA. Whether you are an ambulance driver, wildlife hospital volunteer, vet surgery, an animal attendant, fostering or even one of the call centre operators; each play an important role in making the lives of animals better and happier. It truly is a fun, exciting and rewarding experience for all of those who take the plunge and volunteer. You won’t look back!

There are over 10 different RSPCA shelters across Queensland with a bunch of different roles to suit everyone. Some of these include volunteering in the Op Shop, at RSPCA World for Pets, Customer Service or the Fostering department (just to name a few). We are always in need of some more helping hands, so if you would like to volunteer with us today, view our current volunteer positions and apply today!

Call for Change
Your voice matters and 2018 is your chance to call for change. Did you know that more than 11 million hens spend their lives in battery cages? Join the movement to free hens from the cages by taking action here. #endthebatterycage

Not to mention the amount of dogs being bred with exaggerated physical features which impacts on their health; their ability to breathe and even give birth normally. You can learn more about how to call for Breed Standards to be changed. Let’s help dogs live happy, normal lives.
Eat Humanely
Choosing higher welfare food options would make a fantastic New Year’s resolution! All you have to do is look out for the RSPCA Approved label the next time you’re shopping for chicken, eggs, pork or turkey.

If you are struggling to find cafes and restaurants near you that supply humane food, check out the RSPCA’s Choose Wisely website to find one near you! Also, not to mention the amazingly yummy food sold at the Black Cat Café at RSPCA Wacol. If your business serves higher welfare options on the menu, it’s free to sign up online too!

FUN-draise
Raising money for animals in need can be super fun and exciting and is definitely rewarding, too.

The RSPCA has two major fundraising events each year: Million Paws Walk and Cupcake Day! Keep an eye out in 2018 for ways you can get involved in Queensland! You can also create your own fundraising activity at your school, social club etc. Learn more about joining Team RSPCA here.
Adopt! Don't Shop!

If you are searching for a new furry family member, head down to your local RSPCA to adopt your newest family member. By adopting an RSPCA pet, you are giving these animals a second chance at life!

All of RSPCA pets undergo health and behaviour assessments prior to adoption - so don’t sweat the small stuff, we have that covered! RSPCA pet desexed (excluding pocket pets), vaccinated, microchipped, worm and flea treated. All you need to do is find a furry loved one from our RSPCA rescue pets available to adopt and then chat to the adoption team to select the most suitable pet for you and your family.

Become a foster carer

If you are not ready to make the life-long commitment of owning a pet, maybe you could consider fostering an RSPCA pet?

By fostering an RSPCA pet, you are temporarily looking after the animal at your house until the pet finds a home, or is ready to be desexed etc. This is a great way for you and your family to look after an animal for a shorter amount of time. If you like the sound of becoming an RSPCA foster carer, please call (07) 3426 9997 or apply online today.
